Many global corporations have discovered that unilateral development
and/or uniform dissemination of Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives
is ineffective at best and causes negative reactions at worst. Never was
the term "Think Globally, Act Locally" more pertinent. Sensitivity
to local needs and cultures is particularly important with the topic of
diversity and inclusion.
To think globally is to recognize the need for Unity of a Corporate Strategy
with shared Vision, Mission, Values and Long Term Objectives. To Act Locally
is to recognize the need for National Strategies that take into account
the particular location's core inclusion issues, business case for managing
differences, and utilize a culturally appropriate process for change.
These circumstances and dynamics vary greatly throughout the world. Because
the ultimate goal of an inclusion initiative is to maximize the productivity
and effectiveness of all employees and to realize the organization's mission
and enhance business results, we cannot hope to achieve success without
recognizing, respecting and leveraging these differences.
Global Inclusion Initiative Best Practices indicate that success is achieved
through a process, not a mere training program or series of special events.
At Simmons Global we identify that process as a Change Management Strategy
that addresses the special challenges of changing "differences"-related
behaviors and of doing so in various locations, cultures and businesses.
At Simmons Global, we have created a Global Inclusion Model rooted firmly
in best-in-class change practices, the Simmons System of Interlocking
Inclusion Components.
